Brandel Chamblee is at it again! The Golf Channel analyst recently branded LIV Golf course layouts as "ridiculous" – reopening an old wound. His theory: LIV's relaxed setups, where a score of -23 on "slow weeks" can already land you in the top 10, have simply softened the players too much for the brutal demands of the majors. Things truly got serious on the greens back then, and that's evident now.
Bryson DeChambeau is particularly under fire. Chamblee believes Bryson lacks the "stomach" for a true return to the PGA Tour. He's playing more of a "chicken game" with the Tour. The "Mad Scientist's" form has indeed suffered since his move to LIV, even though the PGA Tour has specifically introduced a "Returning Member Programme" for defectors like Jon Rahm and Cameron Smith. Four years after Phil Mickelson's 2022 move, the participation of 11 LIV players at the PGA Championship in Philadelphia seems like a slow but unstoppable collapse.
The Major Stage Beckons
The PGA Championship is the ultimate test of endurance for the LIV contingent. Of course, players like Rahm, DeChambeau, and Tyrrell Hatton are teeing off, eager to prove they are still truly strong. But the eternal question remains: Can one truly maintain peak form without the constant pressure of Tour events? Brooks Koepka timed his departure before the big implosion, Rahm's shock move in 2023 highlighted the talent drain, but for many others, it might be too late.
Future Uncertain
Rumors surrounding LIV's "OD IO US FUNDING" issues continue unabated. This indicates: The venture isn't thriving. It will be exciting to see how all of this develops and whether the former major heroes, accustomed to pressure, can truly still compete when a Grand Slam really heats up. One thing is clear: Chamblee's next declaration is only a matter of time.
