Brooks Koepka: Frustrated! Lacks Contention on the PGA Tour

Brooks Koepka is known for his cool demeanor and mental fortitude in major moments. However, in recent weeks on the PGA Tour, frustration has been brewing for the major contender. It significantly bothers him that he hasn't been able to put himself into genuine title contention until the end, as he usually does – that feeling when the "juices" are really flowing, was missing.

The five-time major champion, currently ranked 162nd in the world, stated it plainly: The only thing he hasn't managed this season is to put himself within striking distance of victory with nine holes to play. His last PGA Tour victory dates back over 21 events, although he secured a triumph at LIV Golf in 2024. But don't worry, golfers: His form is on the upswing; with a T9 at the Cognizant Classic, a T13 at The Players, and most recently a T18 at the Valspar Championship, things are looking very strong again.

The Champion's Frustration

This missing final push for a stellar round could also have had technical reasons. Brooks himself admitted that a broken driver cost him "six or seven shots" at the Valspar Championship. Apparently, a crack in the clubhead was the culprit, sabotaging his drives. Such a thing can drive even the toughest champion to exasperation.

Eyeing Augusta

Koepka is teeing it up at the Texas Children's Houston Open this week, aiming to ignite his game. It's essentially the final dress rehearsal before the Masters in two weeks – his twelfth appearance at Augusta, for which he is fully qualified thanks to his 2023 PGA Championship victory. The goal is clear: To once again contend at the very top, feel the pressure of the competition, and reclaim that invaluable feeling of a title fight. His game is getting "better week by week," so we're eager to see what he delivers in Houston.
