DELOFTED presents: The Arnold Palmer Invitational – Berger leads the field!
Golf fans, listen up! Daniel Berger is absolutely dominating the Arnold Palmer Invitational! The man delivered an impressive round of 68 on Friday, giving him a commanding lead at a stunning 13 under par. And this is at the halfway point on the notorious Bay Hill course in Florida – things were certainly heating up on the greens!
The 32-year-old American walked into the clubhouse with a six-shot lead. He's really kept the competition at bay, as he chases his first PGA Tour victory in five years – the tension is palpable!
"I felt like I actually played better today," Berger deadpanned. And that's despite him conjuring up a pristine 63 the day before. Respect, Daniel! He added: "I think the course was a bit tougher today. The greens are really fast, and the pin positions were a real challenge."
Berger, already a four-time PGA Tour winner – his last triumph was in 2021 at Pebble Beach – started his second round with a clear statement: He sank a 24-foot putt from the fringe for birdie directly on the first hole. What an opening! Sure, on the par-3 seventh hole, he recorded his first bogey of the week after finding the bunker and needing two putts. But after that, things went smoothly again for the Florida native on the back nine, where he collected three more birdies.
Aberg and Theegala Make Their Mark
Ludvig Aberg from Sweden also finished at seven under par in the clubhouse, as did Sahith Theegala, who stormed the leaderboard with a bogey-free round of 67. These guys are seriously strong! American Theegala grabbed a total of five birdies, holed out from a bunker on the 10th hole, and sank a 14-foot putt on the 16th hole. True pros! Theegala was visibly relieved that his scorecard remained flawless when he holed a crucial 10-foot par putt on the last hole. Phew, that's a sigh of relief!
"That was a killer round, to get through here bogey-free. The putt on the last hole definitely meant a lot," he commented. Theegala predicted to us golf fans that the conditions would become even nastier. The greens are expected to get even firmer this hot weekend. "One reason I love this place is simply that it's pure chaos here... the first few days were probably as good as the scoring gets here," he revealed.
Rory in Masters Mode
And then there was Rory McIlroy, warming up for his Masters title defense next month. He also delivered one of Friday's best rounds, finishing the day with a 68. After a somewhat shaky even-par opening round, he expressed being "very pleased." That worked out! Rory carded five birdies and just a single bogey on the
