Ancer is home: The Latin American connection at Torque GC is complete! Recall? In 2024, Abraham Ancer claimed the individual title at LIV Golf Hong Kong at the Hong Kong Golf Club. Back then, he celebrated with his Fireballs GC buddies. Sure, they spoke the same language – or rather, two: Spanish and English. But nationally? Not at all! Ancer, the Mexican, and the three Spaniards. The entire Atlantic Ocean separated them. Clearly: That wasn't home. Now, with Ancer competing at HSBC LIV Golf Hong Kong, things look very different. It's already his third appearance with his new crew, Torque GC. The switch happened in the winter because Mito Pereira had to make way – and Ancer seized the open spot. Now joining him are his longtime buddy and Olympic colleague Carlos Ortiz (Mexico), Colombian Sebastian Muñoz, and captain Joaquin Niemann from Chile. The move wasn't just predictable, but also incredibly logical: Ancer swapped the Spanish LIV Golf team for the Latin American squad. A deluxe sense of home! “It just fits perfectly,” says Ortiz. “This has always been his home, and now it’s official. He was practically on a foreign exchange semester and now he’s back.” For Ortiz and Ancer, it’s also a reunion of the highest caliber: The two were teammates on Fireballs in the first two LIV Golf seasons under Captain Sergio Garcia. Then Ortiz moved to Torque at the start of 2024, and Ancer was the sole non-Spaniard on the Fireballs for the past two years. So, his return now is naturally all the sweeter. In terms of results, Ancer's time with the Fireballs was truly impressive. Not only did he clinch the individual title in Hong Kong and stand on the podium three other times – he was also a critically important pillar for the team’s successes. The Fireballs secured seven regular-season titles and are the only team to have claimed victories in all four LIV Golf seasons. Last year, they even had three consecutive tournament triumphs, including at Hong Kong GC, where Garcia snatched the individual title while Ancer, as defending champion, finished T12. What a strong performance the guys delivered! Ancer, now 35, looks back on his Fireballs days with a smile. He values his time with Garcia and the young guns on the team. “I had a great time with the Fireballs,” says Ancer. “And they still have a really strong team. But now, with these three guys, I definitely feel at home.” Carlos and he have known each other since childhood, from national tournaments in Mexico. Later, they competed against each other in college. Sebastian and Carlos were also together in college. And when Joaco turned professional and really took off on the PGA Tour, they spent a lot of time together. They also played together at the 2019 Presidents Cup. “This is a special group. They have a really cool connection, the sc
