What looked like the prelude to a serious wrist injury fortunately turned out to be a close shave, which she survived without major injury.
The incident occurred in the opening round, when Lee faced a decision: take a penalty stroke or somehow extricate a seemingly unplayable ball at the base of a tree. The 31-year-old LPGA Tour player, who has been on tour since 2015 and has earned over $1.1 million (approx. €1 million) this season alone, opted for aggression. She swung through, the shaft hit the tree trunk and snapped in half – a sound that makes every golfer wince. The potential for a truly horrific wrist injury was immense, especially as she is currently already battling another injury.
Nerves of Steel or Unnecessary Risk?
It's the eternal question on the course: Play it safe or go for broke? Lee chose the latter, flirting with a real disaster. A shattered club and an impact against a tree trunk could have massively escalated the situation. Fortunately, it was just a good scare and she apparently didn't suffer a serious wrist injury.
