Listen up, folks! Anyone who's been following the Volvo China Open these past few days and thought Adrian Otaegui had taken the lead with a stunning round of 62 shots needs to brace themselves. Spoiler alert: That was a classic false report! The Spaniard, after his second round, a solid 69, is actually 7-under par and is T13. So, there's still plenty of room for improvement for a move on Moving Day.
At the top of the leaderboard, however, things are heating up even more. South Africa's Shaun Norris (63-67) and Austrian Tour star Bernd Wiesberger (64-66) share the lead. Both are at 12-under 130. Norris only dropped one bogey after a superb opening round this time. And Wiesberger? He came back really strong from three shots back with a round of 66, including seven birdies and two bogeys, to contend at the very top.
Otaegui Confusion
Yes, Otaegui played a good round, but it was a 69, not a magical 62. Nevertheless, he delivered a truly solid performance, which the DP World Tour even celebrated as his "lowest round of the season." Although he's five shots back and not within striking distance of victory, who knows what's still possible over the weekend. His run of three consecutive birdies starting from hole 7 was certainly a statement!
The Chasers are Ready
Right behind the leading duo, Chinese local favorites Chai Bowen (65-66) and Zhou Yanhan (62-69) lurk in T3, just one shot behind the leaders. Spain's Alejandro Del Rey (61-71) is also still very much in contention at 10-under, despite dropping back slightly after his stellar opening round. It's going to be a fierce battle when the third round tees off on Saturday. The tension is definitely palpable!
