What an incredible performance Si Woo Kim delivered in the second round of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson! The South Korean had the magical 59 within his grasp as he stood on the 18th tee, but after a bogey on the final hole, he had to settle for an incredible 11-under 60 on his scorecard. Despite the slight drama at the end, it's a phenomenal round that catapults him to the top with a total of 18-under par.
Kim secures a solid five-stroke lead heading into the weekend and showcased at the redesigned TPC Craig Ranch what true golf prowess means: twelve birdies in 17 holes is simply a statement! So close to a 59, that stings.
The Pursuit is On
But the competition is fierce and won't be easily shaken off. Leading the charge, of course, is Scottie Scheffler, the world No. 1 and defending champion, who claimed victory here last year. With a really strong 63, he keeps pace and is at 13-under. Thus, five strokes separate him and Kim.
Also in the chasing pack, also at 13-under, are Sungjae Im, Kensei Hirata, and Wyndham Clark. Local favorite Jordan Spieth, hailing from the Dallas region, also showed he's in contention with his season-best performance – a 62 – and is at 12-under. So, there still seems to be plenty to play for.
Pure Excitement Awaits This Weekend
A five-stroke lead is a comfortable cushion, no doubt. But with Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, and others breathing down his neck, Kim can't afford any mistakes this weekend. The 71st edition of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson promises a thrilling ride on the greens as the battle for the title enters its decisive phase. The drama is palpable!
