Scott Hend has claimed the title at the 50th Trophy Hassan II, easily dominating the field by five strokes. What a debut on the PGA TOUR Champions for the Australian, who truly outclassed his competition in Rabat, Morocco. He not only secures his first victory on this circuit but also shatters a long-standing tournament record.
Hend – The New Champion on Tour
With an impressive 15-under-par 204 (rounds of 66-69-69), Hend left no doubt who was in charge. In only his twelfth start on Tour, he shows that he is a force to be reckoned with in the future. Things are clicking for Hend – and that, even though he wasn't even a full member of the PGA TOUR Champions at the start of the week!
The Competition Was Left Behind
While Scott Hend delivered one stellar round after another, Steven Alker and Tommy Gainey tried in vain to keep pace. They finished at 10-under-par 209 in a tie for second place. Golf legends Ernie Els and our own Alex Cejka were also in the field, sharing fourth place at 8-under-par 211 – but by then, there was no stopping Hend.
Hend not only breaks the unwritten rule that a 36-hole leader has never lost this tournament, but also secures a hefty $400,000 from the $2.5 million purse. A truly impressive win that also propels him far up the rankings in the Charles Schwab Cup.
