Four LIV Golf players, including Jon Rahm (T2) and Cameron Smith (T7), finished in the top 18 at Aronimink Golf Club. The weekend did not end as hoped for Jon Rahm, who aimed to become the first Spaniard to claim the 27-pound Wanamaker Trophy, awarded to the PGA Championship winner. However, the consolation prize was substantial – a runner-up finish and some highly valued encouragement in his pursuit of further major championship hardware.
Rahm's 2-under 68 on Sunday at Aronimink Golf Club put him in a tie for second place at 6-under par, three strokes behind England's Aaron Rai, who shot a final-round 65 – and played his last 10 holes in 6-under par – to finish the week at 9-under par on a challenging course setup.
Rahm's Major Run: Back on the Big Stage
For Rahm, this is his best major result since winning the Masters in 2023, and his 16th top-10 finish in his 38 major starts. It also reaffirms his major championship prowess, after finishing T34 at last year's Open Championship and T38 at the Masters last month.
LIV Golf's Spearhead Shines
“To be in contention again and hitting the ball as well as I did this weekend – it was a great week,” said the Legion XIII captain. Since joining LIV Golf prior to the 2024 season, Rahm has been the league's top performer, capturing two individual titles across seasons and also leading the points this season. “You really can’t ask for more from yourself.”
