A historic national Open is returning to the tour calendar – and with plenty of ambition! After a rather turbulent past, the English Open is now back, ready to reclaim its rightful place in the world of golf.
Not just any tournament, but an event that has seen better days and is now attacking with renewed vigor. The DP World Tour, together with England Golf, has forged a formidable plan: First, the English Open will return to the HotelPlanner Tour in 2026 and 2027. And the goal is clear: in 2028, it should return to the main DP World Tour.
Comeback on the Green
For 2026, it's already decided where the drama will unfold: The Vale will be the venue, promising a blockbuster event. This comeback shows that tradition and future can go hand-in-hand in golf. It's a truly strong signal for English golf, to revive a national Open with so much energy.
The Long Road to the Top
Whether the English Open truly lives up to its claim as one of the most historic national Opens is debatable. Some recall other tradition-rich tournaments like the French or Australian Open. But precisely this discussion makes the whole thing so exciting. One thing is for sure: the path back to the very big stage won't be a walk in the park, but the potential for emotional moments on the green is huge. We're excited to see who will take home the victory in 2026!
