The golf world held its breath, but in the end, Michael Block lacked that crucial slice of luck: At the Simmons Bank Championship, he narrowly missed the automatic Tour card for the PGA Tour Champions 2027 and thus also the final tournament, the Charles Schwab Cup Championship. A truly bitter pill for the former club pro, who delivered a really strong season on the course.
In the second playoff event, the Simmons Bank Championship, Block posted a 2-under 70 in the final round and finished the tournament in a tie for 11th place. This result catapulted him in the Charles Schwab Cup Standings from 43rd to 42nd – unfortunately far from the Top 36 who qualified for the season finale and at the same time secured a direct spot for 2027.
From Surprise Star to Fighter
His 2026 Champions Tour season was largely driven by a wave of enthusiasm and numerous sponsor invitations resulting from his phenomenal performance at the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill. Back then, he not only made the cut but also created real drama on the course, even holing an ace on the 15th hole while playing alongside Rory McIlroy. A sensational story that golf fans in Germany celebrated.
The Future for 2027 Is Uncertain
In 2026, Block played a total of 20 tournaments. While he didn't secure a win, he recorded two third-place finishes, six top-fives, and eight top-tens. In total, he earned $548,971 in prize money. Despite this impressive record, it wasn't enough for an automatic status extension. The pressure on the course, according to Block, was immense, as every player knew exactly where they stood in the points race. Now, he will likely have to find another way to compete in 2027.
