MacIntyre's wish is not unfounded. Carnoustie, a true beast among links courses, last hosted in 2018 when Francesco Molinari claimed victory. Muirfield's last hosting was even further back, in 2013. For the Scot, these are simply "proper championship tests" that deserve more recognition.
Although several Open Championships have taken place in Scotland in recent years – Carnoustie (2018), St Andrews (2022), and Royal Troon (2024) – MacIntyre clearly sees untapped potential. He wants a stronger presence for the Home of Golf in the major calendar. While the next Open at St Andrews next year is already confirmed, it's still not enough 'Scottish power' for him.

He is playing the Dunhill Links on iconic courses like St Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns, which underlines his connection to these classics. His demand, therefore, comes straight from the heart of links golf.
