The Irish coast is getting a facelift, and a seriously expensive one at that: with a hefty €7 million investment, the Seapoint Golf Links in County Louth is undergoing a complete overhaul. This mammoth project, which will temporarily close the course from January 2027 and reopen in spring 2028, aims to elevate the links experience in Ireland to a completely new level.
Leading this remarkable transformation is none other than Pádraig Harrington himself, supported by Giulia Ferroni from Leeds Golf Design and Roddy Carr. Their goal is clear: Seapoint is not only to receive a more distinctive and consistent links design but also to be infrastructurally prepared for the future. This includes four completely new holes, seven new green complexes, and a strategic repositioning of bunkers and natural sand areas. The irrigation system will also be modernized to optimally maintain the course on its 220-acre site.
New Face for a Links Gem
This is not just a facelift, but a complete revitalization for Seapoint. The plans also include upgrading amenities and practice areas. Genesis Links Limited, the driving force behind the investment, aims to make the club truly strong for both its members and international visitors, establishing County Louth as a top destination in golf tourism. Marty Carr of Genesis Links emphasized that this project is a clear vote of confidence in Seapoint's long-term potential.
Harrington's Vision: A Major-Capable Course?
The ambitions are high. Pádraig Harrington is rumored to have already spoken about the redevelopment having the potential to make Seapoint a venue for the Irish Open someday. That would be a statement! So much for the vision behind the €7 million. The anticipation for what awaits us from spring 2028 is definitely huge.
